WELCOME to cowboys For Kids!

Cowboys for Kids is a 501(c)(3) charitable Corporation founded in New York and now based in Colorado. The organization has operated continuously since September 18, 2001. The core mission of Cowboys for Kids is to offer both therapeutic and character building avenues to physically impaired, underprivileged, and at-risk children by instilling in them the virtues of the American Cowboy and the Western way of life. No other American icon has exhibited such courage, compassion, code of honor or willingness to embrace hard physical work as the cowboy. These values are disappearing in American society. Cowboys for Kids aims to bring those desirable values back through the children we involve in our programs. Cowboys for Kids offers a variety of camps and activities to children from differing backgrounds. We offer week long camps for older children and those that are in remote locations relative to our facility and day programs for children that are located close to our operational facilities. The programs include the following:

  • Cowboys for Kids Horse Clubs: The horse clubs meet weekly in two hour blocks. The kids are not only having a blast learning how to ride a horse but they are being taught personal and horse safety, grooming and the proper use of tack, equine etiquette and so much more. They sign up with their friends or individually and make new friends that love horses as much as they do.

  • Little Buckaroo and Buckarettes: These coed, five day, non-residential programs are tailored to 5-8 year olds. In addition to the character building focus that will include live lessons in courage and determination, the little folks will learn how to approach a horse, the names and uses of horse tack, how to rope a dummy cow, enjoy a bit of chicken cutting and have some basic riding lessons on Cowboys for Kids program horses.

  • Cowboy Up / Cowgirl Up: Six day camps allow the 8-14 year olds to learn similar topics at a more advanced level than the younger group. Sessions will include roping dummies through breakaway roping, the development and use of Western tack, the anatomy and care of a horse, basic horsemanship and trail riding and "The Cowboy Way", an introduction to the Cowboy Code of Ethics, lived out while they are on the ranch.

  • Top Hand Camps: These programs are the "Advanced" level adventures designed for kids in the 15-18 year range. Six day camps will include roping, doctoring cows, team penning and sorting and an overnight cattle drive where the kids will sleep under the stars and enjoy genuine chuckwagon cuisine.

In addition to the camps offered, Cowboys for Kids has, and will continue to, participate in outreach activities that include school visits and appearances/activities at western lifestyle events such as the Rocky Mountain Horse Expo (RMHE) series. The Cowboys for Kids 1869 Abbott and Downing stagecoach that was donated to us December, 2008, appeared in the 2009 National Western Stock Show parade and exhibit hall and gave rides to visitors during the 2009 RMHE. We recently introduced a "Cowboys for Kids Extreme Junior Dummy Roping Event" at the 2009 Rocky Mountain Horse Expos in Denver and Eagle, Colorado, and the 2009 and 2010 Eagle County Fair and Rodeo. We will include this popular new activity in all of our outreach efforts. After you complete your visit on the C4K website, be sure to visit our sister site for details about our new Northern Colorado location - King's Revenue Ranch.
